Wente Summer Camp 2010

Wente Scout Reservation boasts 2200 beautiful acres of pristine wilderness run by an enthusiastic, experienced staff and offering one the most diverse programs to be found. Wente's 80-acre lake offers a natural setting for swimming, sailing, boating and canoeing. It is considered one of the warmest lakes in the state. The lake also offers some prime fishing with many trophy bass caught by both the expert and novice angler.

Wente Scout Reservation is a chance to backpack, sail, fish, ride horses, and go rock climbing all in one week. Scouts may take a try at black powder musket firing, kayaking and rappelling. Expert instruction in popular outdoor skills merit badges will make the Scoutcraft area come alive. Wente is rich in wildlife and allows for the study of conservation, reforestation, wildlife management, woodcraft and nature study. Rifle, shotgun and archery shooting are also popular activities.

Troop 8 will be spending a week at Camp Wente this summer from July 11 - 17. All scouts are invited to attend, young and old alike. This is a great opportunity for new scouts and freshly crossed-over Webelos to earn advancement through Wente's Eagle Trail program.

Cost for the week is $390 if paid in full by March 23. (Newly crossed-over Webelos have an extension until May 25 for payment.) A $30 late fee may apply for payments after the due dates. These fees and dates are based on the schedule set forth by Wente. We will do our best to accommodate reasonable delays and refunds but are constrained by camp policies.

Adults are also invited and welcome to attend all or part of camp. And, of course, were looking for drivers. Adult fees for the entire week will be announced when they are available but will be significantly less than that for scouts.

So come join Troop 8 and have fun at Camp Wente. It may well be the highlight of your summer!

Forms

These are the forms and documents that are required for Wente. The Medical and Permission slip must be filled out, signed, and turned in by the May 25th Troop Meeting.

  • Annual Health and Medical Record (PDF format)

This is the special Wente medical form. It is based on the official BSA annual medical form but SF council has modified the last page to include permisison to shoot firearms and such. If you already have the offical BSA form, you can use that, but substitute the last page from the Wente version.

Note that Part B must be filled out by a licensed medical professional who may require that your son schedule a physical exam. Plan ahead so you're not rushed when the forms are due!

Also note that this form can be updated on-line and saved on your computer for use next year. If you have one from last year, you need only update the information and print it out again. Alas, it's only good for 12 months so you'll still need a doctor's signature if you have last year's form.

  • Troop Permission Slip (PDF format)

This is the Troop's permission slip and consent to treat. It is also available in MS Word format.

  • Merit Badge Signup (PDF format)

This is the merit badge schedule for Wente. Put your name on it, then simply hilite or circle the badges you wish to sign up for.

Camp Information

We held a Wente informational meeting for parents and scouts in early May. You can download a PDF of the presentation that was made at that meeting. Below are the handouts from the meeting.

  • Parent's Guide (PDF format)

This packet has information about Wente, it's location, emergency contacts, where to send care packages, and so forth.

  • Scout's Guide (PDF format)

This includes informaton about merit badges, the Wente program areas, outposts and other stuff to know while you're at camp.

  • Equipment List (PDF format)

This is a list of what to bring and not bring to summer camp. Don't forget to wear your class-A uniform with your bathing suit underneath.

  • MB Signatures (PDF format)

If your son has signed up for a merit badge that requires a sign-off, here's a handy place to record the signature. This includes Citizenship in the Nation, Energy, Fire Safety, Personal Fitness, Personal Management, Plant Science and Camping.

You can also find out information about Wente from the camp's very own web page.
